Royston’s Shorts
Royston’s Shorts is a retrospective collection of short films by director Royston Tan that was released by the Asian Film Archives.
Royston has a wonderful eye for visual beauty, especially a soft spot for old characteristic places, and a deep empathy for his human subjects, which is evident in the films that he has directed.
Understanding his perspective, Little Ong found an old yet beautiful laundromat in Potong Pasir, and together with Royston one morning, cajoled passerbys to pose there, which resulted in the photograph that he shot for the cover of this DVD release.
The design of the DVD cover, which is also used as the promotional poster, features simple typography that melds into the photography perfectly.
